While completing the actual service portion of the project, my group did not do much work together, simply due to the nature of the soup kitchen. However, when we worked together to complete the video, I have to say that I enjoyed working with Derek and Austin. They are both great people, and I am glad that I got the chance to work with them. Before this assignment, I felt that I would take more of a leadership position in the group, simply because that was the role that I had taken in past group projects. However, all three of us had fairly strong leadership qualities, so we surprisingly meshed well together because we were able to take equal shares of the work. Concerning the neighborhood in which we completed this project, I have to say that it was, for lack of a better term, a little shady. The buildings looked sort of run-down, and there were not many people around, so I felt a little uncomfortable. Needless to say, I am glad that I visited this neighborhood in a group. I think that I would have felt less comfortable if I was by myself, because it was comforting to be with a number of other people in this unfamiliar environment. I honestly do not feel that visiting at a different time of day or year would have affected my opinion at all, because the factors that contributed to my opinion of the neighborhood seemed fairly permanent. Doing this project has had an impact on me as a person, because it has really opened my eyes to the diversity of the community around me, and helped me learn how to interact with those that are significantly different from me. I think that interacting with diverse people is an area in which I could grow, because for most of my life, I have been around the same kinds of people. Therefore, this project was a sort of blessing in disguise, because it gave me experience in working with diverse groups of people that I can carry over to other parts of my life, and hopefully hold on to for the rest of my life.
